Motherhood in the time of Covid.

A short film.

I took a filmmaking class online with the YouTube sensation Casey Neistat. And, though I am not an avid YouTube watcher, I love his style and creative approach to it all. So, when the opportunity to take his first class presented itself, I signed up.

Our first assignment was to make a spontaneous film shot on an iPhone. In other words — no fancy equipment. The assignment was to tell a story inspired by the world around you. Then, choose something interesting in that world and tell the story. My story jumped out at me immediately.

Here was the inspiration…

The year is 2022.

The city is New York.

We are in week four of a self-imposed lockdown.

The kids are home from school. Again. Homeschool attempted.

No child care. No space. No room of my own.

Our woman is reaching her breaking point.

She hasn’t had a moment to herself in who knows how long.

She needs space to think, to work, to focus, to enjoy her cup of tea while it’s still hot, to exercise alone, to take a piss in peace, to hide away. She plans an escape. Will it work? Who the f knows? But she is willing to try.

And so, without further ado, I present you — Motherhood in the time of Covid — Omicron addition.
